Unfortunately we all know how black the situation is in China: this coronavirus (or carognavirus if we want) is stirring up the population of Wuhan and some Italian sources also speak of contagion in the Bel Paese. Without being alarmed, we are sure that the national health service does a good job of isolating this virus which, however you say, is proving to be less lethal than that which developed years and years ago in China. Alarmisms aside, Xiaomi is doing its part to help compatriots by first presenting one table lamp which helps in air sanitization, and after the same product but in portable version. Perhaps the word "life saver" is exaggerated, but without a doubt it is a product which, by combining the tech that we saw with the first device and the portability, thanks to the minimal measures, it could help to stay a little safer. No doubt it is not a machine that kills viruses in all respectslet alone the latter that is filming, but could reduce the risk of contagion.
We are facing one miniature version of the previous, and more powerful, table lamp. The functions are similar but the measures obviously change: 141 x 62 x 52 mm which make it ideal not only for carrying in a handbag or backpack, but also the positioning in small spaces. Operation is very simple: to turn on the appliance, simply press the button on the front and wait a few seconds before the tube lights up. THE UVC rays issued allow one disinfection almost at the highest levels because damages the reproductive system of virus-carrying bacteria and prevents its spread (source). By the way, returning to the coronavirus speech, official sources confirm that it is sensitive to ultraviolet rays and therefore the product could be a valid support to be safer at home.
The only limitation of this lamp is the time of use: a use cycle lasts only 30 minutes, which is still enough time for kill 99.9% of bacteria that we commonly find inside a house like like E.Coli o Staphylococcus. In any case, the lamp is not yet available on the crowdfunding portal, but will only be available from 19 February, with a starting price of 79 yuan, or 10 € round rounds at the current exchange rate.
