It was only a matter of time: Xiaomi also withdraws from Russia

The last time we talked about Xiaomi and Russia it was about halving the company's supply of smartphones to the country. At that juncture, we found that there were no reasons related to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Today, however, according to reports from the Wall Street Journal, the situation seems to have changed a little. Apparently Xiaomi and Lenovo, among others, stand for stop their relations in the country and it amazes that everything is happening without warning. Let's go see the details.

Xiaomi, along with Lenovo and many other brands, has also decided to withdraw their business from Russia. Here's what we know from the Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal back that Chinese technology companies Xiaomi and Lenovo, without any official statement, they began to suspend business in Russia. As mentioned above, these have already significantly reduced the offer of their devices in the country. According to the source, Chinese companies fear US sanctions and the possibility of terminating relations with Western suppliers. In March of this year, laptop shipments fell by more than 40% compared to February, smartphones by nearly 2/3 and telecommunications equipment exports by 98%. This information was obtained from the latest Chinese trade report.

Citing information from insiders, WSJ reporters report that Chinese companies like Xiaomi are under great pressure from American chip makers to ensure that their semiconductors don't end up in the hands of other manufacturers and other exporters.

xiaomi tow business in russia

Last month, the Chinese Commerce Ministry acknowledged that the Western sanctions had disrupted trade of China with Russia, but urged local companies to "do not submit to external coercion or make inappropriate external statements". In addition, the Chinese authorities have drawn up a series of rules to force companies not to follow foreign sanctions that they deem unjustified.

However, it must be said that some brands still continue to collaborate with the Russian market. For example, the mobile operator Beeline, owned by the Dutch company Veon Ltd., announced that it has received a batch of telecommunications equipment from Huawei in March and the delivery was made in full compliance with all necessary laws, including US export controls.
