Alldocube iPlay 40H – The compact and affordable tablet suitable for everyone

Alldocube is one of the best manufacturers of cheap tablets, we noticed it in the review of the excellent one Alldocube iPlay 20 Pro which received an excellent rating for value for money. Alldocube iPlay 40H that I have tried these days, could easily outclass it in this sense.

Design

The Alldocube iPlay 40H body is constructed of black aluminum alloy on the back and conveys a good build quality. The frame, also made of metal, is only 8,3 mm thick, while the total dimensions of the tablet are 248,1×157,9 mm. The weight is only 474 grams, a few compared to the average of the category, nevertheless it is robust enough even if I still recommend the purchase of a case since in the package there is only the pre-applied film to the glass.

In the front part the wide display from 10,4 inches it takes up most of the space, leaving just a small bezel broken only by the 5,0MP front camera in the center of the top for taking selfies and for video chatting. At the rear is the slightly protruding 8.0 MP main camera with a flash in the top left corner.

Two speakers are installed on the right side while on the left side there are two other speakers together with the USB type-C port. At the top are the power button, the volume balancer and the tray for the SIM card + SD card.

Unfortunately there is no headphone jack, we will therefore have to use an adapter or wireless headphones.

Alldocube iPlay 40H – Performance

Alldocube iPlay 40H Test Gaming

This tablet was created for a casual and for entertainment, therefore the usual operations on social networks and video viewing that it manages to manage very well and without slowdowns. But the octa-core processor UNISOC Tiger T618 2,0GHz with 12 mm architecture, one of the most powerful SoCs used in mid-range tablets, is able to offer even more. In benchmarks AnTuTu reaches 240.000, equal to a Snapdragon 665.

I tried the tablet with long sessions on PUBG or COD Mobile and it was real fun with acceptable loading times and fluidity on par with more expensive competitors. There GPU Mali-G52 MP2, which is a mid-range integrated graphics card for ARM-based SoCs, performs very well and offers decent gaming support. Even the 8GB of RAM LPDDR4X they're more than enough to handle multitasking and even hearty gaming.

La temperature it has never been a problem even during games, in which the external chassis certainly gets very hot but remaining within acceptable limits and in any case without warnings from the system.

Content playback

Alldocube iPlay 40H Test Display

Alldocube iPlay 40H has one 2-inch 10,4K IPS screen with a resolution of 2000x1200 pixels, enough to enjoy any content on the tablet with good color accuracy and sufficient brightness. Overall it is a good display for the price category in which it is positioned.

Playback of YouTube content was very smooth. I was able to play videos at max 1080p and 60 FPS without problems or lag, with good color rendering.

Unfortunately, the Alldocube iPlay 40H tablet does not have les Widevine DRM Level 1, therefore paid services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime cannot be viewed in high resolution but this happens on 90% of Chinese tablets in this range. You can still enjoy Netflix and all other streaming services but with a maximum resolution of 480p.

Thanks to four loudspeakers integrated, iPlay 40H offers immersive audio that is pleasant during videos and games, but lacks full-bodied bass and the sound is quite dish.

Cameras

Alldocube iPlay 40H is equipped with two cameras, a 5 MP front camera and an 8 MP rear camera.

That 5 MP front it allows you to take selfies and make video calls at 720p which is not bad at all even if the microphone does not offer great quality.

The camera rear 8.0MP it records 1080p video and takes decent photos, especially when the lighting conditions are good, even if this is certainly not the assumption with which you choose a tablet.

Connectivity

iPlay 40H supports 802.11 ac/a/b/g/n 2.4GHz/5GHz wifi networks guaranteeing good speed but the coverage offered is poor like almost all the Chinese tablets I've tried, so a strong signal is needed to take full advantage of the wifi network. There is the telephone module that supports 4G LTE which is a great convenience to guarantee you always-on connectivity even when you are away from home. The receiver is missing GPS and a form Bluetooth 5.0.

Autonomy

Alldocube iPlay 40H mounts a built-in 6200mAh Li-Po battery, a good value considering the thickness of the tablet, which allows 6-7 hours of continuous use for surfing the Internet, Google, YouTube and following social media, obviously the time is reduced a lot by playing games but with normal use, it is possible to cover the whole day without problems. Recharging, which takes place via the USB type-c port, takes place in about 4 hours since we do not have fast charging available. Overall it offers adequate performance to the tablet and the expectations I had.

Software

As software we find Android 11 stock, barring a few minor customizations, with full screen gesture navigation controls, dark theme, split screen, and most of the features available on Android. Of course, there is no shortage of google services that are perfectly integrated and functional.

There are no pre-installed apps or ads, it's a no-nonsense Android experience as well fluid and stable, which is what matters.

The system should automatically detect and update the tablet but if not, you can visit the deli page software updates and manually download any updates.

At the time of writing, unfortunately the Android security patch is stuck on May 5, 2021 and there are no updates available.

Alldocube iPlay 40H Price and Conclusions

Alldocube iPlay 40H is a mid-range tablet that offers something more than the competition. The excellent UNISOC T618 SoC and the 8 GB of ram allow a pleasant use in all the operations you will do.

The excellent 2K display and the light and compact design make it an attractive tablet also for those looking for something more than the "usual Chinese tablet".

The absence of the headphone jack but above all the Widevine DRM Level 1 are tolerable shortcomings but it depends on what you will use the tablet for.

Alldocube iPlay 40H is available on BangGood for €128 using the discount code BGf7c023. It's a “ridiculous” price compared to what this tablet offers and it's an excellent opportunity to buy a versatile and reliable product. If you can make a small economic effort, I recommend the new iPlay 50 Pro version which offers something more for the price of €146 with the discount code BGRA469
