Still troubles for Xiaomi: HEVC patent infringement in Germany and community protests for the facial unblocking of POCO

The legal vicissitudes that see our beloved Xiaomi as protagonist seem to have no end poco has been accused in India for the infringement of some patents and is now back under the spotlight of the digital court again, again on the charge of patent infringement. This time the accusation comes from a German company that holds the patent for HEVC support.

To challenge in court, in Düsseldorf, the Chinese giant is the company HEVC Advance Licensors, which has been violating the patent relating to the HEVC / H.265 digital video codec. We do not know if and when Xiaomi will respond to the accusations made in its confrontation, but probably as happened in the past, Lei Jun's company will come out stronger than before.

Still troubles for Xiaomi: HEVC patent infringement in Germany and community protests for the facial unblocking of POCO

Instead, the troubles that see Xiaomi as the protagonist towards the community are different. In reality, the main actor of this story concerns the sub brand POCO, which not only seems to have lost its own identity in terms of development, considering that the latest releases on the market are all a rebrand of Redmi devices, but does not even seem to offer homogeneity at the software level. In fact, in some geographic areas, smartphones POCO they do not enjoy facial recognition and therefore the relative release, despite being equipped with all the sensors useful for this feature.

The first model to introduce this technology into the home POCO, was the glorious POCOPHONE F1 heir to Mi 8 and which as such even offered an IR facial release, very reliable and above all that allowed face recognition even in very low light conditions. But returning to the revolt of the community, this was triggered by the fact that the geographical restrictions of the brand regarding the unlocking with the face, have no foundation, considering that in the same areas Xiaomi smartphones that enjoy the Unlock Face functions are marketed.

The community was given as an explanation for this strange behavior, which Xiaomi and POCO they are two companies that act independently in terms of compliance with the laws, therefore also in terms of privacy. But fortunately the problem mentioned is not serious, because there is a little trick that will allow you to enable the unlock face even in the regions where the ban is foreseen. Just change the region from the settings and that's it.
