How Xiaomi's wireless charging pad is done and how it works

Let's talk about Xiaomi wireless charging. During the tenth birthday of the brand, several products were presented: Some smarphones or My 10 Ultra e K30 Ultra, Professional Go Kart built in collaboration with Lamborghini and also a base for wireless charging that takes the name of Mi Smart Tracking Charge Pad. We know the technology on board this last product: it is the wireless one, also used by vertical base at 50W.. But unlike the vertical board there are some changes in operation. It approaches Apple's AirPower, announced years ago but not yet mass-produced.

Here are the details from inside the Mi Smart Tracking Charge Pad, Xiaomi's wireless charging base that has received several criticisms

Despite the concentration of technology on board the brand's charging pad, there have been criticisms of it. In particular Li Nan, formerly of Meizu, claimed that this product it is not in line with the standards of the moment. The technology used according to him would be backward, far less than that used (so to speak) from Apple. We know that AirPower, this is the name of the base of the Cupertino brand, is ready as a prototype since 2017 but has not yet been put into production due to some problems that we are not here to analyze.

These are pictures of what the wireless charging pad looks like inside. Unlike what we might expect, it does not consist of many coils which serve for the passage of energy. It is in fact formed by a single moving coil. The mechanism is simple: through two axes X and Y which move in the four cardinal directions, the coil works from tracker and goes to look for the position of the device we put on the pad itself. Once located, the coil turns on and the passage of energy begins.

This product unlike the other Xiaomi Wireless charging pads costs a lot: 499 yuan against 299 about on average. Surely this mechanism, however simple, is not cheap. As mentioned earlier, the former Meizu Li Nan has criticized this technology as backward and lower than Apple. Below is an image of the interior of AirPower.

apple wireless airpower

At the basis of his criticism is the fact that on Xiaomi's proprietary base they can be recharged only two devices while on Apple's AirPower it is possible to put more than two devices. All in all, Li Nan's reasoning is there, but there is an underlying problem. Apple has been launching this product since 2017 but until today it has not yet been put up for sale. Plus the price will be more than double, so somewhere it must hang. Or not?

We free ourselves from any criticism towards one or the other brand: it is not our intention to make controversy.
