How to verify the authenticity of a Xiaomi smartphone

Despite the great success that the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is also having with us, it is undeniable that we Europeans are much more disadvantaged than those who live in Asia due to unofficial marketing. This situation, in addition to making us pay a higher price to buy a Xiaomi smartphone, exposes us to risks regarding the authenticity of the products we buy. For this reason, below we present 8 tricks to check if it is an authentic Xiaomi smartphone or not.

  • Mi Verification App: it is an application developed directly by Xiaomi to help users not to run into scams. It analyzes all the hardware of the smartphone and determines whether it is actually a Xiaomi smartphone or not. Unfortunately it does not work with the Redmi series devices and with the Mi Pads. To download the app, it will be enough click here.
  • Authenticity label: it is only found on smartphones sold directly by Xiaomi. It may seem like a controversy, but to identify a smartphone, there is no need for a label, as official dealers do not. However, you can also verify the authenticity by typing the 20 code below the label on this site.

  • Checking the MIUI version and the Android version: For those who are passionate about it, it is important to compare the version of the software purchased on the smartphone purchased with that reported in the various forums (including ours);
  • Aesthetic control: Unfortunately, this method assumes possession of another model of the Xiaomi smartphone we have purchased. If it were a clone, even though it is identical, there will always be some small neglected and different details

  • Benchmark: A bit like the smartphone software version, try benchmarking and compare it with what you find in various forums around the network. If the device is authentic, the result will be similar to those;

  • bloatware: the presence of pre-installed applications not closely linked to the MIUI ROM is a clear sign that the smartphone is not authentic.
  • Accessories: Xiaomi, just like all smartphone makers, includes smartphone packs just as narrowly as necessary, so if you find strange accessories, be aware that this is a fake smartphone. Note, however, that some retailers plug in an international power adapter;
  • Price: If the price of the smartphone you are about to buy is too low, you should remember the saying "Too good to be true". Considering that the dealer's goal is the gain, at the exchange the price you will pay will never be lower than the Chinese price list.
