Compare Nubia Z17 Mini vs Xiaomi RedMi Pro: who is the best hub?

This time we present a comparison of one of the best Xiaomi smartphones as a value for money, the RedMi Pro, and a newly introduced smartphone, the Nubia Z17 Mini. Many expectations for the latter but, above all, can we really consider them rivals? We just have to find out: Nubia Z17 Mini vs. Xiaomi RedMi Pro!

Once again the exceptional testimonial chosen by Nubia is Cristiano Ronaldo and once again the expectations for this new Nubia device have been many. But really how can this device compete with a Xiaomi RedMi Pro, which, in all likelihood, is perhaps the Xiaomi smartphone less than the RedMi series?

1

Nubia Z17 Mini vs Xiaomi RedMi Pro: the design

Both devices have a body entirely in metal but the dimensions differ:

Nubia Z17 Mini: 146.7X72.5X7.5 mm (155g)
Xiaomi RedMi Pro: 151.5X76.2X8.2 mm (174g)

A truly “mini” Nubia compared to the RedMi Pro which, probably, is also aimed at those who need a larger display. While then the Xiaomi arrives in the Silver, Gold and Gray colors, the variants of the Z17 Mini include the Black, Gold and Red colors.

Another difference is the position of the fingerprint scanner that, for the RedMi Pro is placed under the home button, while for the Nubia the sensor is positioned on the back and the home key is capacitive.

2

Nubia Z17 Mini vs. Xiaomi RedMi Pro: the display

Two distinctly different displays: an 5,2 inch IPS FULL HD fills the front of the Nubia Z17 Mini for a percentage of the 70,1%. This percentage, now widespread after the presentation of Xiaomi Mi MIX and its fantastic display, reaches 72% on Xiaomi RedMi Pro thanks to 5,5 inch OLED FULL HD display.

Both are characterized by curvature of 2.5D glass.

Nubia Z17 Mini vs. Xiaomi RedMi Pro: Technical Specifications

CPU, RAM, and INTERNAL MEMORY

The Nubia Z17 Mini comes in two distinct versions: the standard version mounts a Snapdragon 652 while the High Edition an SD 653, but both variants are equipped with 64GB of internal memory. Clearly different choice for Xiaomi that on RedMi pro mounts a MediaTek Helio X25 both on the High Edition variant (with 3GB of RAM memory) and on the Exclusive Edition (with 4GB of RAM memory), but instead chooses a Helio X20 for the 3GB Standard version of RAM.

Both Nubia and Xiaomi are expected to expand their internal memory by preferring a micro SD to the second SIM.

Objectively, this functionality is not so strictly necessary on all variants of these devices. Recall that the RedMi Pro is sold, depending on whether you choose the Exclusive version, the High Edition or the Standard, respectively with 128GB, 64GB or 32GB of internal memory.

BATTERY

This is where substantial differences come.

The Nubia Z17 Mini here is much smaller than the Xiaomi we recommend if you want a device with extraordinary autonomy. In fact, while RedMi Pro boasts a battery pack of well 4050 mAh, the autonomy of the Nubia Z17 Mini has to deal with a battery from 2950 mAh but we do not feel like criticizing it because it is in line with the company's choice of achieve a mid-range device.

Both devices are then compatible with fast charging through the USB type-C port.

CAMERA and SOFTWARE

Let's start with what is the most specific aspect of the two brands: proprietary software. Nubia mounts the UI 4.0, while Xiaomi is the classic MIUI 8. Both devices are based on Android 6.0 MarshMallow.

Of course, this is a different story for cameras, although both devices are characterized by the presence of a dual rear camera.

Nubia Z17 Mini

  • monochrome back camera from 13 Mpx;
  • rear camera RGB (Sony IMX258) from 13 Mpx;
  • front 16 Mpx wide-angle camera (80 °)

Xiaomi RedMi Pro

  • back camera from 13 Mpx (Sony IMX258);
  • rear depth camera from 5 Mpx (Samsung);
  • front 5 Mpx wide angle camera (85 °)

Nubia Z17 Mini vs Xiaomi RedMi Pro: prices

Nubia Z17 Mini

  • Standard Edition (4GB) - 1699 yuan (about 235 Euro);
  • High Edition (6GB) - 1999 yuan (about 275 euro)

Xiaomi RedMi Pro

  • Standard edition (Helio X20, 3GB / 32GB) - 1499 yuan (about 205 euro);
  • High Edition (Helio X25, 3GB / 64GB) - 1699 yuan (about 235 euro);
  • Exclusive Edition (Helio X25, 4GB / 128GB) - 1999 yuan (about 275 euro)

Recall that the Nubia Z17 Mini will be sold starting next April 13, but what we feel like saying is that the only motivation that can push the user towards the Nubia Z17 Mini compared to the excellent Xiaomi RedMi Pro is exclusively that of the dimensions, both of the screen and of the device as a whole. In fact, Xiaomi, although it refers to the RedMi series which was born as a medium-low range series, is absolutely not comparable to a smartphone made for the user who is not looking for performance or quality: RedMi Pro is the link between a smartphone that costs relatively poco and a build quality and components that have nothing to do with low-cost smartphones.

In short, do you still have doubts?

I am happy owner of a Redmi Pro that I got in exchange for another terminal from a phone enthusiast like us and I can say that I was amazed by this Redmi. Salient features the fantastic display and autonomy that often exceeds 6 hours of screen
