With the evolution of smartphones, the need to protect them in an increasingly effective way has evidently arisen. Gorilla Armor, the result of the collaboration between Samsung and Corning, represents a significant turning point in this field. This new material not only mIt significantly improves the durability and resistance of the devices, but it also redefines the visual experience of users. It debuted on the new Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra but will be integrated on the top of the range 2024.
Gorilla Armor: a new era of durability and visual quality
Gorilla Armor stands out as the strongest Gorilla glass Corning has ever produced. In laboratory tests, Gorilla Armor has proven up to three times higher performance compared to competing glass of the same type (i.e. aluminosilicate glass) in terms of resistance to falls on surfaces similar to concrete.
La Reflectance reduction of up to 75% compared to a typical glass, is another salient feature of Gorilla Armor. This significantly improves the readability of the display and reduces screen reflections in almost any environment. This is not only a technical advantage, but contributes significantly to the user experience by allowing the device to be used in different light conditions without compromising on visibility.

Corning has developed an innovative laboratory test, the “Scratch Bot“, to replicate the micro scratches caused by daily use. In this challenging test, Gorilla Armor showed an absence of visible scratches, demonstrating more than quadruple scratch resistance compared to the competition. It is interesting to note how this technology not only raises the standards of durability, but also how it suggests a new direction in design and in the production of materials for smartphones.
La collaboration between Corning and Samsung, which led to the birth of Gorilla Armor, is nothing new. Corning's Gorilla Glass has played a fundamental role in numerous Samsung products, symbolizing a bond that is renewed and strengthened over time. Kwangjin Bae, Head of the Mobile eXperience Business Research and Development Team at Samsung Electronics, highlighted how this partnership has helped significantly improve durability, increasing user confidence and peace of mind in the use of the products.
Additionally, Gorilla Armor includes an average of 25% recycled content pre-consumption, as validated by UL Solutions. This is a material that never reached the end user, having been diverted from the waste stream during a manufacturing process.
