Pixel 4a is the best single camera from Google (and not only) for DxOMark

It has been a long time since smartphones with single rear camera they are not realized. Nowadays even the an entry level, for the most part, they are equipped with at least two sensors. But Google has decided to go against the grain with its new one Pixel 4a and inserted only one optic in the rear patch. The choice is less focused but above all motivated: let the photo optimization software do all the work. The Mountain View company is famous for this: its algorithms are used by everyone even on non-Google devices thanks to porting of the Google Camera. But will this choice have had a positive effect? Absolutely yes. Let's see the details together.

Google Pixel 4a is not in the top 10 of DxOMark nor in the top 30 to be honest, but it is the only one with a single camera to score 111 points

After seeing the evaluation of the Pixel 5 by DxOMark, let's see how the little brother Pixel 4a fared. The device carries a sensor from 12 megapixels, or rather 12.2 megapixels, with f / 1.7 aperture and OIS (optical stabilization). We have repeatedly said how the number of megapixels does not make a cameraphone. Sure, not even a few are ideal, but this device is there proof of what an excellent software elaboration can reward. Aside from an LED flash, that's all it has, no telephoto lens, no ultra wide angle, not even a monochrome depth sensor.

dxomark rates google pixel 4a with only one camera

The device produces decent exposure, excellent colors and fast autofocus performance. It can even beat more expensive flagships in low-light scenarios when it comes to detail and image noise. The Google Pixel 4a is therefore not equipped with a second sensor for the bokeh effect but the proprietary algorithm of "miracles". However, not all that glitters is gold as they occur depth estimation errors and not rarely.

For video lesson is capable of recording 4K but DxOMark found it 1080p at 30 or 60 fps as the best setting. Ultimately the score is 111 points, far from the top of the ranking that sees in first place a very powerful Huawei Mate 40 Pro. All in all, however, for the price and the user experience you can not ask for better.
