MIUI V5 for Tablet, Full Review [on Nexus 7]

The popular custom rom MIUI was recently released for tablets, probably seeing the still good relationship between Hugo Barra and his former employer, Google, the first device to receive it was the Nexus 7 of 2 ° generation. A tablet that unfortunately for BigG did not get the same success as the first Nexus 7 ...

However, the 7 Nexus 2 ° gen. it's becoming a kind of showcase. Developers are using it to show their Roma: Ubuntu was initially in Ubuntu with its Ubuntu Touch, followed by Xiaomi with its MIUI.

Although many of you readers are familiar with and already know the Rom MIUI thoroughly, by installing on their phone or by buying a Xiaomi-phone, I did not have all this habit with Xiaomi's cooked rom. In the past I owned Samsung and Sony phones with TouchWiz, Xperia or CyanogenMod so my point of view is not e7o will be very different from that of a likely standard holder of this tablet that has always run the Android stock. I've never even owned a phone with iOs!

The question we ask is: is it worth flashing MIUI on our Nexus 7? Will there be any improvements?

There are some features that are missing on the Android stock, others that for example the CyanogenMod does not run by default and that made me immediately shout of joy. However, there are as many features that I would personally review, some elements of the interface to name one. And then, the big worry, the resemblance "and, too"With iOs of Apple ...

Let's start from the installation. Xiaomi provides a guide for MIUI, but the software is in Chinese and although the videos explain the process step by step in an incredibly accurate way, I prefer to use the Nexus Toolkit Wug that allows you to install Google services (Google Play Store, Gmail etc. .).

Since the first release, Rom MIUI has been renamed as clone iOs. Though she has never owned an iPad or iPhone, I have certainly had the opportunity to try them. You immediately recognize the similarity between the two Os: missing the app drawer (which can be added), the icons slightly resemble those of iOs, By default the "Back" buttons and apps are the reverse as on iOs (also this can be modified on Settings) ... If your view was defective, you might be confused!

So why install it? Xiaomi brings some nice features to his rom, such as the one on the top of the name screen and download speed of the Wi-Fi network to which it is connected. A rom that is easily customizable with downloadable themes (like CyanogenMod), which comes with a one-click button / app for system cache cleaning very useful. These features make information and activities much more accessible. Let's say so, they deserve it!

MIUI also has some annoying features. The first, shared with iOs, is the lack of the app drawer (but as we have already said can be resolved), the second is the translation, not yet completely finished: see Chinese characters when using a Chinese product is normal but this not limited to the minutia of some apps. Three basic buttons like Copy, Select, and Paste I'm entirely in Chinese.

This may not be a serious problem for our readers who have probably already purchased Chinese devices in the past will already have some familiarity with the Chinese. However, if the MIUI Roma wants to expand its user base (with English) it must ABSOLUTELY solve problems such as these.

Just like Google wants us to connect with all devices to our Google account, Xiaomi also urges us to link to our Xiaomi account. You can not do this but you lose some of the features that make it useful and enjoyable to install MIUI!

There is Xiaomi music, from which we can listen to an incredible collection of Chinese and international hits, there is an app similar to Netflix that shows Chinese TV shows ... but the only reason why it is worth opening a Xiaomi account (if not you are Chinese) is the Xiaomi app Store.

MIUI V5

It's possible (and even simple) Install the Xiaomi App Store on almost all Android devices. One of the largest stores on the planet, with billions of downloadable apps, some of which have descriptions in Chinese, among which you can navigate with English. Sometimes in Chinese, others in English ...

What makes the Xiaomi app store unique, unlike the Play Store or the Amazon Store, is the presence of apps that are exclusive on other stores (on the Play Store, on Amazon, no ... on Amazon, on the Play Store no), apps (especially games) that are paid on other stores and are free here ...this aspect still needs to be clarified in terms of legitimacy but at the moment put the Xiamo Store in front of the various App Store, Play Store, and so on.

As regards the MIUI operation, we did not find any problems. No random restarts, no app crashes, no games, no streaming video apps with Chromecast, turned on the big, as on standard UI stock. Not even the performances were affected, on Antutu ul Nexus 7 managed to total about 20000 points.

Conclusions

MIUI is much more than an iOs clone. Xiaomi takes some features of the Apple OS and adds the opening and customization of Android to make it an absolutely interesting rom. However, it does not seem completely complete yet and the sensations on the features similar to iOs will make the choice, as it should be, remain absolutely personal. That said though, I was pleasantly surprised by its stability and even though my review is over, I still have to go back to stock Android.
