OnePlus Open, the company's first foldable smartphone, is shown in a video with Pete Lau

As some of you already know, OnePlus is ever closer to the release of its first foldable smartphone under the name of Open, which is expected to debut later this month, according to rumors. Today, the company officially began its promotional campaign for the new device, after giving a preview a few days ago when an Indian actress was spotted holding the device in her hand.

Today's video was created by Unbox Therapy, and sees the participation of Pete Lau, the CEO of OnePlus.

As expected, the Open it closes without creating any gap between the two parts of the screen, as shown in a test where a sheet of paper was stuck inside and then the phone was lifted by the sheet itself, without it falling.

The video also allows us to see the device, although there is a large piece of cardboard above the protrusion of the cameras and therefore we will only see these at the presentation. However, we note that there is a slider for notifications.

As far as technical details go, the Open's zipper has 31 components less than that of the Oppo Find N2, which helps reduce its size and weight. Lau says his company is "bringing the best phone to the challenge," even though it wasn't among the first to enter the foldable smartphone challenge. It promises a fast and smooth experience as we are used to from other OnePlus devices.

Also in the Unbox Therapy video Pete Lau states that the device was created together by the OnePlus and Oppo teams, who combined their specific knowledge. It also says that there will be different market launch strategies, which makes us think that it is a veiled confirmation that the same device will be marketed as OnePlus Open internationally and as Oppo Find N3 in China, something that has been rumored for months.

Pete Lau also confirms that there will be no clamshell smartphone, at least for now, because, according to him, the type of user who prefers a clamshell smartphone is not the same type of user who buys a OnePlus. Do you agree with him? Let us know in the comments section below!
