The foldable smartphone market is still developing, but some manufacturers seem to have already lost faith in this segment. It is the case of Oppo, which according to a recent report would have Find N5 Flip project cancelled, the successor to the Find N3 Flip launched last year.
The reason for this decision was not disclosed, but it is assumed to be linked to the poor sales of Oppo's previous generations of clamshell foldables, which would not have justified the continued investment in the Find N5 Flip. This would be a surprising move, considering that the leaflet market is still growing and offers ample room for innovation and differentiation.
Oppo, however, would not have completely abandoned the foldable sector, but would have concentrated on the book format, more similar to a tablet. The FindN5, in fact, would still be planned and should be launched globally together with OnePlus Open 2, which could be the same device with a different name, as already happened with the Find N3 and the first Open.
Oppo, however, would not be the only company to focus on foldable books, which seem to be more requested by the public. Also Xiaomi and alive, in fact, they have models of this type in the pipeline, which should be launched internationally. It's about the Mix Fold 4 for Xiaomi and del X-Fold3 for vivo, which would be the first global leaflets from the two brands.
Xiaomi and vivo, however, would not have given up on clamshell foldables, which instead would remain confined to the Chinese market. These are the Mix Flip for Xiaomi and the X Flip2 for vivo, which should be presented this year. This choice, however, would leave the field open to Samsung, which dominates the clamshell folding market with its Galaxy Z Flip series, which should see the arrival of the Z Flip6 this year.
