Pixel 8 teardown video released: here's what Google's new smartphone hides

Google yesterday presented its new flagship smartphones, i Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which stand out for their Tensor G3 processor, Android 14 operating system and upgraded cameras. But how are these devices made inside? The channel reveals it to us YouTube PBKreviews, who published a teardown video of the Pixel 8, showing step by step how to disassemble the phone and what components it contains.

The video starts with a very simple operation: removing the SIM tray. From then on, however, things get complicated, and you have to use special tools to remove the back cover, screws, antennas, battery and various cards. All this with great care not to damage the cables and connectors.

The Pixel 8 proves to be quite repairable, receiving a score of 7 out of 10 from PBKreviews, with 10 being the easiest to repair and 1 being the most difficult. On the plus side, there is the ease with which the screen can be replaced, which is only fixed with adhesive tape. Among the negative ones, however, there is the presence of many screws of different sizes and the need to heat the back cover to remove it.

The video also allows us to take a look at the Tensor G3 processor, the chip designed by Google for its smartphones. It is an SoC based on the ARM architecture, with an octa-core CPU (2x Cortex-A76 at 2.8 GHz + 2x Cortex-A76 at 2.25 GHz + 4x Cortex-A55 at 1.8 GHz), a Mali-G78 MP14 GPU and an NPU (Neural Processing Unit) dedicated to artificial intelligence. The processor is accompanied by 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal memory.

The Pixel 8 has one OLED screen from 6.2 inches with Full HD+ resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. On the back, we find a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera. On the front, however, there is a 10.5 MP selfie camera. There battery has a capacity of 4,575 mAh and supports the fast charging at 27 W via cable and 18 W via wireless.

The Pixel 8 is already available for pre-order at Amazon starting from 799 euros in the 128 GB version (click here to pre-order).
