[Review] Xiaomi Mi4c 3 / 32gb

After a week of use, here I am to give my personal opinion on the latest smartphone presented by Xiaomi.

While the expectation and desire for the presentation of the future flagship, the Xiaomi Mi5, grows, each phone presented helps to pass the time and satisfy the "palate" of those who are tired of waiting. And it is probably in this spirit that many terminals have already been sold.

Aesthetics - 8.0

We can feel the Mi4c a middle ground between Mi4 and Mi4i: Performance of the first with the aesthetics of the second. Indeed the phone has a very simple, almost banal form factor, very close to its cousin, the Mi2s. This, however, is not necessarily a defect since simplicity often has the best on exasperated aesthetic research at the expense of practicality.

The phone is compact, thin is light but well-balanced (132 g - 138 x 69.6 x 7.8 mm): a real pleasure to hold. The volume rocker, as well as the power / unlock button (slightly less protruding) are on the right, you can still awaken the phone with a "double tap" without accessing these commands.

Overall it is a simple but not trivial phone, sturdy and well assembled, it DOES NOT convey the feeling of something "cheap". It is rather the essence of practicality with the exception, however, of the choice to position the speaker at the back resulting in swapping when the phone is leaning.

Hardware 8.5

While waiting to see the production of the upcoming Qualcomm SnapDragon 820 (which we will probably see on Mi5), Xiaomi has preferred to choose the 808 model: a hexacore (2 + 4 core, working independently) from the attractive performance and reduced fuel consumption. Although the current ROM is an immature thread, in my tests the phone has always behaved very smoothly. Even with the heaviest games no problems emerged and no excessive overheating. This SoC also made it possible to keep production costs low.

It is possible to buy two different versions: 2gb of ram and 16 of internal memory; 3gb of ram and 32 of internal memory. Considering the absence of expansion via MicroSD, the 3GB of ram and the small price difference (about € 50), the “pro” version is definitely recommended.

The phone is a dual-sim LTE, but I remember the absence of the 800mhz band which undermines its use with sim Wind in 4G.

We find the hips infrared sensor that allows it to be used as a remote control. There is also a dedicated app of Xiaomi, which draws on an online database (in China) whose access is not really "lightning-fast".

There are also Bluetooth 4.1, dualband WiFi (2.5ghz and 5ghz) with a signal above the average, GPS (A-GPS, Glonass, BeiDou) that has always behaved well.

A novelty of great importance is the presence of the "Edge sensors" present on the edge of the phone, adding 2 gesture for simulating the back button (double tap on one side) and shooting a photo (two single taps). For truth both gestures are not always detected correctly, I hope due to software not yet adequate, making these shortcuts for no practice.

Multimedia 8

The display is an IPS with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a pixel density of 441 ppi. Bright and with a great color rendering, is definitely a strong point for this terminal.

The audio compartment is of good quality. The headset capability, as well as the 2 microphones, make it easy to make phone calls. The back case emits a "warm" and powerful sound, but the choice of position prevents its use in different conditions.

The front camera is a slightly large angular 5mpx that produces excellent "selfie"

The rear camera, equipped with 2-tone LED flash, is a 13mpx with Sony IMX258 sensor equipped with "phase detection" which allows (and I confirm it) a very fast focus. At the bottom of the post you will find some shots in which I surprised the rendering in photos in low light conditions.

The battery is made from 3080 mAh and thanks to the MIUI 7, it is possible to spend the day quietly without worrying about autonomy. It is present fast charging support which guarantees amazing recharge times.

A small / big news is the presence of the new standard form for USB or the "Type C" which allows insertion in any direction. Obviously, this makes your old extra cables unsuitable for use with adapters (not included in the package as initially announced). I personally bought this set by 4 Orzly colored pieces (usb 2.0)  useful for both recharging and transfer.

If you are looking for cables that support USB 3.0, I suggest this:

Conclusion 8.5

At this historic moment of telephony, where VERE innovations count on the tip of the fingers, the Xiaomi has presented a no-frills smartphone, simple, light and compact, but above all at a competitive price.

The Xiaomi Mi4C PRO 3 / 32gb is on sale at smartylife.net at the price of 287 € including shipping, with 2 years warranty, with free home withdrawal in the first 12 months
