The Chinese technology giant, Xiaomi, or to be precise the Redmi sub-brand, has just officially announced the Redmi AX5 Wi-Fi 6 router. The device will go on presale in China starting from 10 June with a final price of 229 yuan. (about € 28). Together with the router, Xiaomi will give away 3 months of subscription to the Tencent online game accelerator.

Going to the product itself, according to official data, the Redmi AX5 uses a 5-core "enterprise" chip from Qualcomm, or the AX1800, together with IPQ6000, also from Qualcomm. These are based on a 14 nm production process, with independent NPU, hardware acceleration and subsequent reduction of the heat generated.
The NPU, also called the "independent network acceleration engine", is a chip specifically used to manage packet forwarding. The main job is to receive the data packet and forward it quickly based on the address of the packet, just like a conveyor belt at the post office.
In terms of hardware, the router offers one Gigabit WAN port and three Gigabit LAN ports, 128MB integrated memory and 256MB RAM. There are also two integrated dual-band antennas.
As for signal amplification, official sources let us know that they have integrated 4 independent signal amplifiers. This leads to an increase in theoretical coverage of about 50% and at the same time supports multiple mesh networks. It can therefore work with the Mesh networks of the Xiaomi AX3600 and routers AX1800, for high-speed Internet access throughout the home and connection without loss of continuity.
Xiaomi also communicates that the Redmi AX5 can download high definition movies in just 8 seconds, with the speed that can reach 1775 Mbps, or about 52% faster than the traditional WiFi 5. Overall, the Redmi AX5 and the Xiaomi AX1800 are very similar, if not for their appearance and the most advantageous price (in favor of the Redmi one, of course).
