Samsung could work on a 450MP Hexapixel camera

Samsung has launched several 200 megapixel sensors such as theISOCELL HP1 since 2021 and has been successful with ISOCELL HP3. It could be assumed that the Korean company will stop promoting these higher megapixel sensors, but according to the latest information, the Korean company has just started work on an even bigger sensor. In fact, for this reason, could release in the future a sensor from 450 megapixel brand Hexapixel.

Apparently Samsung would be working on a 450 megapixel camera. A monstrous thing that would allow 12 megapixel photos

Samsung has previously filed the Hexapixel brand, although the number of megapixels was not clear. The brand Hexapixel has sparked new speculation, especially as Samsung may be working on a new camera for an upcoming flagship like the Galaxy s23 ultra. Considering that the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the only member of the current range to have a high-quality 200 megapixel main camera, it can be assumed that the behemoth will pool its resources to develop a new sensor for next year's flagship smartphone.

samsung 450 megapixels

It must also be said that the cameras of the brand are used by other companies such as Xiaomi, for one thing. But back to us, this 450 megapixel Hexapixel sensor can use a new pixel binning technology to create a high quality image. Samsung's ISOCELL HP1 and ISOCELL HP3 200-megapixel sensors use a 16-in-1 binning method that the company calls the Bayer RGB Tetra²pixel model. The Hexapixel trademark can refer to a method for combine 36 pixel in 1.

But now let's talk about the cons. While some consumers would like to see a 450 megapixel main camera on the Galaxy S23 Ultra and sport these specs, the gain from the high number of megapixels in smartphone camera sensors may not be as effective. The camera sensors of smartphones are significantly smaller, so a high megapixel value will mean that individual pixels will also be smaller. To compensate for this limitation, Samsung should develop a 1 ″ (or more) sensor similar to the one equipped in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra.
