It is now known that the Xiaomi Mi A1 is the first Android One device of the Chinese company. Android One is a project that aims to provide devices powered by a cheaper Android build than those in which the customization of the manufacturer affects the final costs. Xiaomi Mi A1 was then launched with a near-stock version of Android Nougat with the promise to receive an Android Oreo update. In fact, after looking for beta testers, Xiaomi has started releasing Oreo for its Mi A1 to a select group of users. The update adds many features typical of Android Oreo as the picture-in-picture mode, the Autofill API and more, but also adds an unexpected feature, namely fast charging.
Xiaomi devices they are known for their batteries with good capacity and excellent autonomy but they generally do not support Qualcomm's Quick Charge technology while having the same hardware capabilities: Xiaomi Mi A1 is no exception. With the beta version of Android Oreo, the Indian technology site Telecomtalk has confirmed that the device has received support for quick recharge in the last update.
The device charges to 100% in about 92 minutes according to the test, much faster than the current 2 hours around. It should be noted that the website has tested this new fast charging feature using the OneNux 5T charger and not the standard charger supplied with Xiaomi Mi A1.
Other Xiaomi devices have received fast-charging capabilities through unofficial means, therefore It's nice to see how Xiaomi is adding functionality in an official version of the software. The reason the device probably did not ship with onboard fast charging technology is because while the hardware is present, Xiaomi probably did not pay Qualcomm the license to use Quick Charge technology. Also, because no kernel sources have yet been released for the device, developers have not been able to make these changes themselves.
