Mobvoi started the release on Wear OS 3 TicWatches for the Pro 3 Ultra GPS, Pro 3 GPS, E3, Pro 3 Ultra and Pro 3 LTE models. The need to develop a “new architecture” to update these smartwatches demonstrates the complexity and importance of updating. WearOS 3, initially released in 2021, represents a key step for Google's wearable software, introducing new features and significant changes now available on TicWatch devices.

The company had warned about the delay in the release of Wear OS 3 on its devices, also opening a time window for the official release. However, this period was not respected: the brand stated at the time that the update it would be released between July and September but it's December.

Mobvoi's decision to update its devices to the new platform responds to a dual need: to keep up with the evolution of the sector and to offer its users the latest technological innovations. The update comes at a time when the Support for Wear OS 2 is waning, highlighted by Google's announcement to end support for Google Assistant on Wear OS 2 devices.

The TicWatch smartwatches that are updating to Wear OS 3 are all powered by the platform Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100, a detail that underlines the high hardware quality of these devices. However, updating requires using the app Mobvoi Health on Android 8.0 or later, and for iOS users, the app Mobvoi Health CoPilot for devices with iOS 16 or later.

How to update TicWatch to Wear OS 3

First of all, check that your TicWatch build number matches one of these:

  • PMRB.220703.001
  • PMKB.211102.004
  • PMKB.211102.002
  • PMRL.220704.001

Download and open the app from the Google Play Store; if you receive incompatibility warnings, your smartphone may not support the app. To update to Wear OS 3, you need an Android device with version 8.0 or higher, excluding models with Android Go and those without the original Google Play Store and Google Play services (GMS).

App and post-update datao

The update will perform a factory reset of your smartwatch, erasing all non-Tic third-party apps and data. However, your TicHealth, TicSleep and TicExercise data uploaded to the Mobvoi app will be saved and synced to the new app within a week of the update. Some internally developed apps, such as Mobvoi Voicememo and TicHearing will no longer be available after the update.

Some third-party apps on Google Play may not be compatible with Wear OS 3, so you may not be able to reinstall them. Furthermore, Google Assistant will not be available after the update, and Google Maps and Google Wallet will not be accessible for iOS users.

Differences in features

Not all Wear OS 2 features will be available in Wear OS 3. For example, customizing the bottom right button will no longer be accessible.
