Xiaomi silver medal in the headphones market: the road is long for gold

Xiaomi reported excellent results in the smartphone market, establishing itself as one of the best brands worldwide. The past quarter saw record takings and mind-boggling worldwide shipments. But as we know, the giant is not just smartphones, so much so that in China it is defined as the "electronics supermarket". Even the headphones are part of his wallet and the latest search for Counterpoint Research confirmed that even here, Xiaomi goes strong like a train. Let's see the details.

Xiaomi is very strong in the headphone market: second only to Apple in the reference period with a total of 9% market share

According to the data provided by Counterpoint Research, a well-known analysis body that deals with market projections and forecasts, Xiaomi has been going as strong as last year as for the headphones. But before we see the data related to the company, let's see some general numbers to get an overview. The global market for TWS headphones grew 78% on an annual basis in 2020 despite the recession triggered by the pandemic. In the graphs below we see on the left the shares of companies in 2020 while on the right in 2021.

It has passed from 233 million units in 2020 to 310 million in 2021 (reference period). All this is due to a growing attention of users in the sector of true wireless headphones (TWS). But how did Xiaomi go in this sense? The data confirm that sales have remained unchanged in percentage points, although overall, as seen, the numbers have increased by a lot. In particular Xiaomi continues to have 9% of the market share behind the unbeatable Apple.

It is clear that the Apple AirPods have created a strand of their own and that the quality of these devices cannot be matched at the moment. For this reason we believe that Xiaomi should focus on higher quality headphones and not on the number. In essence, it should replicate the smartphone policy, even at the cost of doing it raise prices TWS headphones. What do you think about it?
