Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, no fear for charging at 120W: the battery does not get damaged

A few days ago Xiaomi's new master race smartphone was born in China. Xiaomi mi 10 ultra, the device that unfortunately it will not see the light in Europe, will remain the undisputed king of flagships for a long time. In fact, from his we have the latest cry in all sectors: hardware both SoC and camera and software with the MIUI 12 super optimized. Among other things, we advise you to take a look at the teardown, a real pleasure for the most nerdy. But there is also one on his side 120W wired charging which, combined with the 50W wireless makes it a sliver in charging times. But the question arises: this power will drain the battery? The answer is given by the brand itself.

There are those who are afraid of the 120W charging power on Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra: the battery is optimized and will not suffer for hundreds of cycles

Some time ago we had addressed the issue of the battery and the high charging power on Optoday.it. In particular we have seen the presentation of the new 125W recharge, currently the most powerful on the square. Next we saw an experiment involving the degradation of the Oppo Find X2 Pro. In short, all this to say that the brands, Xiaomi or Oppo, have not stopped to develop powerful charging technology, but have also provided for cells that support this power input and that they do not deteriorate over time. But how will Xiaomi have acted with its new flagship? Let's see it after the presentation video.

The device in question has a large 4500 mAh battery and the supported 120W power allows you to recharge it at 41% in 5 minutes and 100% in 23 minutes. Record times for a smartphone but in many they raise perplexity about the life of the cells charging. The brand has responded to these doubts by giving concrete data:

  • first of all, the data in the laboratory show that the battery has a98.5 efficiency%: the new high-efficiency charging architecture 4: 2 it allows the current to enter with a high voltage and to be divided not only by reduce its impedance but also to improve the overall conversion efficiency. To understand what we are saying, just look at the image below (from left to right). A custom chip is integrated into the charge pump Qualcomm.

  • graphene: many of you will be aware of this revolutionary technology for charging smartphones. Well, Xiaomi integrates one graphene battery (although not completely graphene) which allows a remarkable efficiency in the face of a negligible heating of the cell. In order not to burden everything on a single cell, we opted for a butterfly design where they were placed two mini 2250 mAh batteries moon. To help the sector not to overheat there is a double FPC material (flat flexible printed cables) which allows the current to pass when the usable distance is minimum;
  • Battery Sense monitoring: this type of monitoring made possible by the Qualcomm chip allows the voltage not to reach maximum power for too long. In fact, we know that 120W are not continuous, but they are only the maximum peak reached by charging. Combined with this there are 34 levels of protection and security that allow automatic shutdown due to a technology anomaly;

  • materials: there has also been an evolution from the point of view of materials. A. Was used to build the type-C charging cable rhodium-ruthenium alloy material more resistant to corrosion than traditional cables. This allows, in addition to greater safety, also exceptional resistance. The device has in fact passed the certification TÜV Rheinland Safe Fast Charge 3.0;
  • some numbers: all nice, but how resistant is the battery? Few numbers: 800 charging cycles lead to a battery degradation of about 10%. This means that after more than two years (average use) the battery charge reaches 90% of its capacity.

In short, all these words to say that the technology aboard Xiaomi mi 10 ultra it is safe, efficient, effective and does not risk exploding the device.
