A few hours ago we told you of the release of DC Dimming function on Xiaomi's 2019 flagship store, or the Mi 9, at least for the developer version of the ROM. In the post, we also reported statements by the director of the Xiaomi software section, Zhang Guoquan, who, without words, argued that the technology used on the Xiaomi Mi 9 is better than that of competitors.
Well, now we have real photos that somehow certify his Guoquan claims. The Mi 9 is in fact placed next to another device that has the DC Dimming function, but achieved with a different method.

So let's go see the images, as you can clearly see you too, the smartphone on the left (the Xiaomi Mi 9) is much more pleasing to the eye than the one on the side. We note in fact that the transitions between the different colors are considerably more natural and fluid. We do not see the graininess that is apparent in the smartphone on the right.
Now you are wondering why this difference is made if both devices should use DC Dimming technology in the same way. As we anticipated before, in reality there are at least two types of DC Dimming, there is the one called "mask + dither" which in practice applies a software "mask" on the display and the one that instead decreases the current flow on the screen to decrease it the brightness.
The first of the two, mask + dither, causes a deterioration of the gray scale and of the colors, with the increase of the bending effect between the different colors, as we can see in the different images. The technology used by Xiaomi instead combines the features of the Qualcomm chip on board along with other software features, this allows to reduce the brightness of the screen without loss of detail and without increasing energy consumption.
Finally, even if not officially communicated, some of you will be interested to know that the device used in the comparison would seem to be the last OPPO Reno presented a couple of weeks ago.
