Of events concerning exploding devices, Xiaomi is not without. Several times it has happened in India that smartphones literally went up in smoke. Apparently, however, it is not the usual devices of the brand that have encountered this ugly problem. Even the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 in the last few hours an Italian user shared his experience on reddit (1, 2) and explained how the new smartband of the Chinese company, built by Huami, caught fire during a charging cycle. Fortunately, an isolated event that did not harm the poor Michele, this is the user's name.

An Italian user put his new Xiaomi Mi Band 5 in charge but suddenly it caught fire leaving everyone dumbfounded
Yesterday's report on reddit that of Michele Costa, an Italian user who had bought one for a month Xiaomi Mi Band 5. The new smartband of the company that did not immediately receive much approval due to the presence on the market of twin (but better) sister Amazfit Band 5. According to what the unfortunate said, the smart bracelet was put on charge and after a few minutes suddenly caught fire leaving the poor user with literally lots of smoke and no roast in hand.
According to the reconstruction of the facts and through the comments on the social network, it was understood that Michele used only the original cable but with a basic charger, of an old Xiaomi device. This has probably created some problems (although it shouldn't). Basically the connector does not seem to have blocked the flow of current which, suddenly, set the device on fire. Fortunately, the purchase was made on Amazon and Michele promptly requested the reimbursement.
But as they say, all is well that ends well: it is a an isolated case and not a common problem. No problems of this type were recognized in the other units of the smartband.

Apparently there are news. The brand has contacted the user For further clarification. We are pleased that the company is attentive to its customers. Xiaomi reported below:
"Xiaomi Italia became aware of the fact and invited the user to contact customer service to receive adequate support. User safety has always been of fundamental importance for Xiaomi, which is why our team is thoroughly investigating what happened"
