Xiaomi Mi5 Standard - CPU unlock thanks to a modified Kernel

Let's face it, one of the factors of buying for many people, and in any case the "good" Android in general, is the modding community behind (almost) all the devices, even the cheapest and problematic.

You buy something and you probably know that you can customize it heavily by changing the operating system, adding optimizations and extending the life of your phone with updates that continue even beyond the official ones.

Today I point out a very promising modding job. As you probably know, the Xiaomi Mi5 has been marketed in 3 versions including one, the 3gb / 32gb one, albeit with a SnapDragon 820 CPU it clocks limited to 1,80mhz instead of 2.15Mhz as in the other versions.

A few days ago the user Harrynowl on the XDA Developer forum, the mecca of the modding, has posted a special kernel that allows the Xiaomi Mi5 3gb / 32gb to unlock the CPU frequency at the same speed as the High and Pro versions!

Through the first tests, by copying the frequency and voltage table of the CPU from the source of the 64GB / 128GB versions, the MI5 32GB is successfully unlocked on the CPU side, maintaining (it would seem) the thermal stress unchanged. The developer is working now to do the same with GPU and RAM.

Unfortunately, the kernel on which it is based is compatible (for now) only with CM13 and MIUI 7.xe then if you decide to venture into this change, you know that you have to do so by giving up the MIUI8 Mayor Release.

IMPORTANT:
It is not said that all breaks, though functional, provide the same performance as the most expensive variants. In fact, the components used for the 32GB remain the result of an incorrect / non-optimized manufacturing process and therefore have been deliberately de-energized to maintain satisfactory thermal characteristics (for info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Product_binning)

Anyway, it's good news to see how developers are working on the kernel to optimize it and bring new features.
