Xiaomi accelerates the development of proprietary chipsets after HyperOS

After the launch of HyperOS, the Xiaomi operating system that replaces MIUI, it seems that the company is pressing the accelerator for further innovation. We've been talking about this for a long time: a proprietary smartphone processor. Until now poco we know it's official but according to latest news, it seems that the 2024 it will also be the decisive year for this innovation.

Xiaomi's proprietary processor will arrive immediately after HyperOS

Recently it was noticed that many have appeared on Xiaomi's official website job offers related to System on Chip design (SoC) in-house. Open positions include roles such as SoC design engineers, SoC verification engineers focused on high-speed interfaces, low-power SoC verification engineers, and SoC verification engineers with a focus on bus directions.

In short, all technical terms, unknown to most, which underline only one thing: these assumptions suggest a clear one indication of Xiaomi's renewed interest in developing proprietary chipsets.

Xiaomi's new commitment to the design and development of proprietary SoCs is not only a technological step forward, but also an attempt to obtain a greater independence from third-party solutions. The open role descriptions talk about responsibilities such as optimizing end-to-end scheduling features on Android phones with proprietary SoCs, and delivering the power efficiency and performance of ARM CPUs, based on in-depth analyzes of the micro architecture of ARM.

It is worth remembering that this renewed interest from the company comes after a first step in the customization field, namely the presentation of HyperOS. This new skin will debut on Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro also in Global version.

This is not the first time that Xiaomi has ventured into proprietary chipset territory. In February 2017, Xiaomi had launched the Xiaomi 5C, a smartphone equipped with the proprietary processor Surge S1. This move had created quite a buzz in the industry. However, after this model, the company has not launched any other smartphones with the Surge processor, at least until now.
