It is in fact news today that the next Xiaomi Smart Door Lock Pro, or the Pro version smart lock, could be equipped with a camera for facial recognition. At the moment it is a speculation, but the image and the related message “the lock is not seen, all in one step” seem clear enough.
As previously mentioned, the presence of a facial recognition system would be a step forward compared to the "traditional" smart locks currently on the market. Especially in this period when it is recommended to touch any object as little as possible. Obviously the door handle should be the object least touched by those who do not live there, but if it can be avoided, why not?
If we go into detail, the teaser actually shows us two cameras. These could work in pairs to create a more secure recognition system. For example it is much easier to fool a single camera system because a well-made photo could pass as the homeowner. With two cameras, on the other hand, the depth data is calculated and therefore the degree of difficulty should enormously increase for those who want to deceive the system.
However, the unknown 3D mask with the facial features of the homeowner remains. If it were possible to fool the cameras, we will be faced with a problem not from poco, we are not in fact unlocking a smartphone, but an entire house, with all that goes with it.
