A bug does not allow you to update system applications on Xiaomi devices, regardless of the version of MIUI: what is happening?
This morning ours Xiaomi Mi 8 has updated to MIUI 12 but before proceeding with the download we noticed a very annoying bug. Going into the settings we saw that they are present two notifications that warn us of the possibility of updating system apps. In particular, this is "Carousel wallpapers"and "Messaging": Trying to proceed with the update we noticed that neither individually, nor with the"Update everything”The process was successful. After noticing this we have decided not to update to MIUI 12 nor to insist with the update of system applications. Poco later on the social reddit we noticed a myriad of reports that referred to the same problem:

UPDATE - TEMPORARY FIX
They show us a way around the problem: go to "Settings", Search above"Region"And change it with"India". Update the applications and then return as a region to "Italy". It is not a definitive fix, but at least we take off the red ticks. Thanks Dario for reporting.

Hi Piero, I have a Mi 8 but I have updated it without problems. I admit that the MIUI 12 arrived a week and more late than the official announcement, but it has arrived.

Settings -> additional settings —–> region —–> india and proceed with the update. Once done, put the Italy region back.
Hi Dario. I also have the same problem even I am3 to update and when I try it freezes and returns to pause. I changed region like you said,. Mine is MI10T Lite. but nothing done.
