Xiaomi patents new smartphone with rotating cameras

As we well know, as Xiaomi enthusiasts, ours is a brand that never stops innovating. As proof of this we have dozens and dozens of patents that you can find on the our site, some of which have turned into real smartphones, while others are unfortunately only "sketches" that have never gone into production.

Xiaomi patents new smartphone with rotating cameras

Well, today, let's go see another one of these sketches, hoping this time it turns into something concrete. The new patent shows a smartphone with a full screen display, i.e. without holes or notches, as it should be in 2020.

But how is this full screen design achieved? Xiaomi seems to use a fairly innovative method to hide the front camera. Specifically we find a camera module on the back which can be rotated upwards or sideways to bring out the front camera and therefore allow us to take selfies.

The patent includes two different designs, one with the camera module positioned at the top left and the other with the module at the top right. That shouldn't change anything between the two designs though, with the centerpiece appearing to always remain below the two cameras.

Clearly this design allows Xiaomi to hide the front camera without having to operate a pop-up mechanism that makes it come out from inside the frame. A design that many do not like because it is more prone to breakage, even if in reality we have never heard of mass failures on devices such as the Redmi K20 Pro released a year ago.

Also, if we have to be honest, the new patent shows a design that seems equally prone to breakage. With a simple fall, the entire module could detach, to this is added the fact that the covers for this device should adopt an even larger and therefore more fragile opening.

In any case, the patent has been filed on the CNIPA website under the number CN305868884 and at the moment we have no other official information about it.

What do you think of this patent? Does it also seem very fragile to you as a design? Let us know in the comments section below!
