Xiaomi Surge S2 in production with 16nm architecture

In February 2017 Xiaomi presented its Surge S1 processor, one Fully self-produced CPU which was adopted by the smartphone Xiaomi Mi 5C. It took 2 years of research and development before presenting the SOC officially to the public and at this time it seems that this event has gone awry and that the enthusiasm has slowed down a bit.

Perhaps because of this this morning new information appeared online through the portal Digitimes, which affirm the arrival of the new generation of the Pinecone processor, that is, the Surge S2. The past generation provided an 28 nm architecture that, though quietly headed to direct rivals such as Snapdragon 625, MediaTek P20 / P25 and Huawei Kirin 655, can not compete with the real top of the range.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will always be the developer of the Surge S2 CPU that this time will have one technology at 16 nm and mass production should start in third quarter of this year and rumors see the adoption of the new CPU on it Xiaomi Mi 6C or even I 6S both expected in the last quarter of the 2017, at least according to rumors.

The Xiaomi Surge S1 is a octacore SOC with four Cortex A53 cores with 2.2 GHz clock and four other Cortex A53 cores with 1.4 GHz clock supported by the Mali-T860 MP4 GPU and Cat. 4 LTE model. Therefore, Xiaomi will do everything to compete with the most aggressive rivals and increase the performance of its new processor so that it can make itself stand-alone on the smartphone front.
