The event held by Xiaomi two days ago was incredible. In addition to the highly anticipated Mi Note 2, the company surprised everyone with the announcement of Mi Mix. Xiaomi VR, also launched together with the two smartphones, is not exactly a surprise (in fact it looks like the improved version of Mi VR Play, announced in August) but it strikes for its excellent features and for the low price.
Mi VR is a sort of mash up between Oculus Rift and Google's DayDream View, while not being the copy of either device. Mi VR is equipped with a built-in motion sensor and a controller with two physical buttons. The latter supports tactile control and records movements thanks to the 9-axis sensor.
My VR has a very low latency (16 milliseconds) that promises to drastically reduce the famous "motion sickness", a plague of many VR devices, also thanks to system-implemented optimization technology.
Mi VR is designed to be comfortable even when worn for long periods of time. The strap that allows the device to be worn is adjustable and the parts that come into contact with the eyes, forehead and neck are lined with cashmere and absorbent velvet. The viewing angle is 103 degrees, the lenses are adjustable and do not create any kind of disturbance, allowing the use of the device even for those suffering from myopia or hyperopia. The available content, provided by over 200 registered developers, includes movies, games, panoramic videos and an interesting application that allows you to “navigate” the universe and explore Mars (hence the name, Hello Mars).
Xiaomi VR is only available in white at a cost of 199 Yuan (about 26 euros) and is compatible with Mi Note 2, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus and Mi 5.
