Xiaomi Group China president and general manager of the Redmi brand, Lu Weibing, has just officially declared that Xiaomi and Redmi will not use the MediaTek Dimensity 800 chips. Several new smartphones recently released with the Dimensity 800 such as the Huawei Enjoy Z and the Honor Play 4 in fact seem to show a substantial gap with the Dimensity 820 that we find on the Redmi 10X.
Lu Weibing: Redmi and Xiaomi will not use the MediaTek Dimensity 800 because it is already obsolete
According to Lu Weibing, both in terms of performance and other features such as the AMOLED screen, make the Redmi 10X a best buy in its category. So Xiaomi and Redmi will not go to use the more obsolete and less performing chipset as the series that should adopt it is already to the next generation.
Previously, Redmi's product director, Wang Teng, had introduced the MediaTek Dimensity 820 as the new generation of high performance 5G processors, in other words, it is the most interesting medium-high end chip on the market. Also always Wang Teng had revealed that the chip was born from a collaboration between Redmi and MediaTek.
Redmi 10X
The chip is based on a 7nm production process and according to official marketing, it should integrate the world's best performing 5G modem. We then find a multi-core CPU architecture and an APU 3.0 as an independent energy efficient AI processor. More specifically, we find that the MediaTek Dimensity 820 is composed of 4 x Cortex A76 at 2,6 GHz plus 4 × Cortex A55 at 2,0 GHz, while the GPU is a Mali-G57 MC5. The SoC supports 5G dual carrier aggregation, 5G + 5G dual card dual standby, SA and NSA dual mode 5G.
As for performance, the MediaTek Dimensity 820 managed to get 415672 points on the AnTuTu benchmark platform. This score is comparable to that of the flagship processor of 2019, or the Snapdragon 855 that on AnTuTu gets instead on the 450 thousand points.
We quickly recall that in addition to the Dimensity 820, the Redmi 10X also adopts an AMOLED screen from 6,57 inches produced by Samsung with 16MP camera inside the notch. Then there is a 48MP rear camera, ultra wide and 8MP telephoto and a 5MP macro.
