The answer, however, is negative. Xiaomi Motors, the division dedicated to electric cars of the Chinese giant, has denied the rumors circulating on the web and declared that there are no plans to launch a Redmi car. At the moment, the company is focusing on completing the production and sales chain of Xiaomi Motors, or more specifically, its first car, the Xiaomi SU7.

The Xiaomi SU7 was officially presented on December 28, 2023, on the occasion of the company's first technical conference. It is a medium-sized electric sedan, equipped with numerous technological innovations, such as the electric motor Xiaomi HyperEngine, the self-developed CTB (Cell-to-Body) battery, and autonomous driving technology.

The Xiaomi SU7 will be available in two versions: one with a 299 HP single engine, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5,28 seconds and has a range of 668 km, and one with a 673 HP dual engine, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2,78 seconds and has a range of 800 km. The HyperCharge charging at 800V It will allow you to have up to 220 km of autonomy with 5 minutes of charging and 510 km with 15 minutes.

The price of the Xiaomi SU7 has not yet been revealed. Xiaomi's CEO, Lei Jun, has only ruled out that it will be 99.000, 149.000 or 199.000 yuan (around 12.800, 19.300 or 25.800 euros). The final price will be announced at the official launch of the Xiaomi SU7, scheduled for the first half of 2024.

Xiaomi also confirmed that its first electric car will be followed by three other models by 2027, for a total of almost one million cars produced in just a few years. The company also invested $77 million in the acquisition of the startup Deepmotion, which specializes in autonomous driving.

Xiaomi thus joins the list of technology companies that have decided to enter the electric car market, such as Apple, Google and Huawei. The sector is growing strongly, especially in China, where sales of zero-emission vehicles increased by 190% in 2023, reaching 3,4 million units.
