Xiaomi has launched its new flagship models, representing the best of the offer for next year, with a series of innovations that go far beyond a simple hardware update. The new series Xiaomi 14 e Xiaomi 14 Pro stands out thanks to a combination of new hardware and software, made possible by the company's new operating system HyperOS.
The transition from the previous generation to the new one is supported by three fundamental pillars:
Topics of this article:
- Qualcomm's most advanced chip yet
- an improved camera thanks to the collaboration with Leica
- a revamped operating system.
Ma Is it worth switching from Xiaomi 13 to Xiaomi 14? The decision is personal, but below you will find all the innovations that could help you decide whether to buy one or the other.
The display
The Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro displays feature a maximum brightness of 3000 nits, positioning itself among the brightest on the market, a feature that has already aroused the interest of several manufacturers. Resolution has improved, with the 14 offering a resolution of 1,5K (2670 x 1200 px) and the il14 Pro which pushes that up to 2K (3200 x 1440 px). Both models maintain a variable refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz, ensuring smooth and sharp images.
The previous generation models, although they have a smaller usable surface (and this can be a good thing), they don't reach the same resolution. Or rather only Xiaomi 13 Pro reaches the same resolution as the 14 Pro but There's a big difference between 13 and 14.

The hardware
As expected, especially after the recent presentation of the new Qualcomm chip, the new Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro host the new Snapdragon 8 Gen3, which is basically a 30% faster of the previous Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, even surpassing Apple's A17 Pro in benchmarks.
The processor configuration, as stated by Qualcomm, above all provides a greater energy efficiency, which translated into daily use, could mean less time spent charging the phone and more time enjoying the features on offer.
RAM memory now reaches up to 16 GB in the 14 Pro model, surpassing the previous generation's 12GB maximum. Storage capacity also takes a leap forward, offering up to 1TB, surpassing the 512 GB of the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro models with more storage space. All numbers higher than any top of the range currently on the market.
Photography
In photographic terms, the collaboration with Leica continues to make Xiaomi devices competitive. The Xiaomi 14 Pro, in particular, stands out for its main sensor with variable aperture from f/1.42 to f/4.0, offering significant improvements in blur, ideal for portraits. In the 13 Pro model, however, the sensor aperture remains fixed, not allowing "dynamic" and "plastic" blurring.
Xiaomi also promises one digital zoom 2x without loss of quality and other improvements, making this generation, at least on paper, the best in terms of photographic performance developed in collaboration with Leica so far, housed in a large rear module. As for the amount of megapixels, we are roughly in line with the previous generation. The only substantial difference is that Xiaomi 14 has three 50 megapixel sensors while Xiaomi 13 has one with 54, 12 and 10 megapixels.
The software
To properly evaluate the differences between before and after, we need to get our hands on a new generation smartphone. Xiaomi 14 with HyperOS in the Global version will arrive next year in Italy and in Europe. However, based on the data disclosed by the company we can say that the main visual change in HyperOS compared to MIUI can be considered a redesigned control center.
This is where all the devices in the ecosystem are managed. Furthermore, Xiaomi has improved the scalability of the system to adapt to different screen sizes and shapes. In particular, viewing on large diagonals has been improved, including foldable tablets and smartphones, and new multitasking features have appeared.
Xiaomi claims that HyperOS takes up less space than any other mobile ROM at just 8,75GB. Additionally, the size of OTA updates has been reduced by 79% and they will install 24% faster. Installation time for third-party applications has been reduced by 15%. Working with background processes has also been improved. According to the company, after 50 months of use, the system performance deteriorates by only 0,5%.
Particular attention in the system is paid to AI functions: text recognition and generation, photo editing based on text descriptions, improved search, etc. Furthermore, Xiaomi has developed its own security system that processes confidential content separately from all other data. All these things never seen on MIUI.
