Call recording returns for some Xiaomi and Redmi devices

Some time ago we witnessed the disappearance of one of the best features of MIUI, or the possibility of record calls without the need to use third-party applications. A blow to the heart for many users who could count on MIUI dialer in this sense. The reason for this lack lay behind the new rules for the privacy. The Mi Community had announced that Xiaomi's proprietary dialer registration was in test phase but today's news is that the Google dialer has reported call recording on some devices.

Some Xiaomi and Redmi devices are receiving, again, the ability to record calls but via the Google dialer

Based on what was reported by the colleagues of Piunikaweb, many users have reported the return of the possibility of recording calls on different models of the brand. In particular the affected smartphones are Notes redmi 8 Pro, Notes 9 Pro Note 9S e Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro. We remind you that at the moment this feature is available (without using the app Google phone and therefore natively) only for Indonesian, Indian and Chinese Roma.

call recording is back on some xiaomi and redmi models

This is the proof that a user posted on the social Reddit

The novelty that is appearing in these devices is precisely this: the recorder is back. The only problem though is that its presence is not stable. In fact, several owners of Redmi devices specifically have complained that the feature is gone at any moment. However, the fact that the year received is a good sign: it could mean that the Mountain View giant has decided to restore call recording permanently. Of course, we xiamists prefer the MIUI dialer however at the moment this seems the only possible option. We will keep you updated in case there are any news. In the meantime, if you also receive the opportunity to record calls again, please let us know in the comments, with maybe some attached screenshot.

Hi Gianluca, I am an owner of an old Redmi note 4 that has the ability to record calls with the integrated MIUI (version 11). I had intended to abandon it for the Redmi note 8 pro: I bought it in March / April on amazon but I returned it as soon as I realized that it no longer had the possibility to record calls. Now, after reading your information, I would like to go back to the charge but with the Redmi note 9 pro. Can you tell me if in the meantime the function has become more "stable" (in the sense that it does not disappear and records without problems... Read the rest »

Thanks for the reply!
So still no MIUI.
On the Redmi Note 9 Pro, however, call recording via Google Phone is enabled, right?
Can you tell me if with Google Phone calls are recorded automatically or do you have to activate the recording function each time with a manual activation?

I purchased the Redmi Note 9 pro, which comes with Android 10 and MIUI 11. I have updated the MIUI to the current version 12 while for Android 11 it seems that at least another month is needed. Both with MIUI 11 and 12 nothing changes: there is no way to record calls, the Google Phone app even if updated (28/10/2020) does not have any recording function. I am very tempted to send him back for this lack which for me is fundamental in my work. PS: the Redmi Note 9 pro also has a big problem with the... Read the rest »

Hi
Thanks for the help

Hello everyone, to date, seen all the news of the return of the call recording function also on my redmi note 8 pro, I have the updated MIUI 12.0.4, I have not found any changes in the google app and the function has not been restored.
If possible I would like to point out that the contacts part is very sparse, you cannot even create groups as in the original MIUI contacts and Xiaomi dialer that cannot be used on our phones.

good evening, is it possible by any chance to be able to record calls with MIUI 12 using any call recording app - such as those found on the play store - if the smartphone has been rooted?

Hi Gianluca, when you say that you can only register with the Google Phone app, I have also enabled the beda version of the program, but it seems that there is not yet this possibility!
I'm waiting for the update to 12.5, hopefully it's available there

I just installed 12.0.2.0 and I was hoping the function would be available again ... but nothing ... It seems to be just a security patch
