Fitbit Charge 5 vs Charge 4: everything you need to know

A few days ago the new Fitbit Charge 5, fitness tracker with advanced features, both in terms of design and integrated functionality. However, it does not necessarily mean that it is the ideal device for you: even the previous model, the Fitbit Charge 4, when it came out last year it was immediately listed as one of the best around.

This is thanks to the fact that it integrates the GPS and is at the same time so thin and light. No Fitbit before that time had been able to harmonize comfort of use and technical specifications so well. Obviously Charge 5 offers several more things, starting with EDA sensor, which allows you to measure the body's response to stress, and fromECG (feature that had already debuted on the Sense model), able to detect the signals of arterial fibrillation by sending notifications in case the heartbeat is too high or low compared to your personal intervals.

Unlike the previous model, there is also a bright in the Charge 5 AMOLED color display, while in the Charge 4 there was a monochrome one. The lines in this newly released device are generally softer. That said, what is written does not necessarily mean that the Charge 5 is the best choice for everyone (some may consider some of its features superfluous). Let's find out all the differences between the two fitness trackers!

Fitbit Charge 5 vs Charge 4: comparison

In comparison Fitbit Charge 5 vs. Charge 4 we must start first from the aesthetic and the design. The similarities between the two wearables are limited to a subtlety they have in common, in addition to the narrow rectangular case. For the rest, these are two devices with big differences. Let's start with Charge 4: it has one plastic case and silicone strap in its standard edition, while in the special one there is an additional braided nylon band.

The Charge 5 instead presents itself with a softer and more modern look, characterized above all by an excellent one stainless steel case. And it's even thinner than its predecessor. It is available in three colors: lunar white, black and steel blue. The Charge 4 instead offers more traditional shades: black, dark blue and dark purple. However, both can be integrated with extra silicone, fabric and leather bands.

As regards the , the leap between the two devices is considerable. Charge 4 features a monochrome OLED touchscreen. Not quite the top, especially due to the low resolution, which limits the amount of training data that can be viewed and makes it difficult to control app notifications (you can only see a small fragment of text). And now we come to the comparison on technical features e the features. From this point of view, neither Charge 4 nor Charge 5 can be considered smartwatches in all respects, but for fitness tracking they are fine. Both can view smartphone notifications and have theNFC, with which you can make purchases via Fitbit Pay.

As we said at the beginning of the discussion, both have GPS: you can track position and pace during outdoor workouts even on the Charge 4. However, Fitbit Charge 5 has many more useful elements for fitness and health monitoring. We talked about it a few lines further up: the EDA sensor and the ECG are two absolutely exclusive features of this latest model.
